Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: it'd be exactly the same
lawreanne sanico: no it won't. so that sparked a debate. it's been long since i debated (not to mention with him, which was more than a year ago). and i had fun debating!! this was informal though 'coz we didn't have definitions whatsoever. but somehow we understood each other's stands! wahaha! i was WINNING! dbaaaaaaa?? pero sumablay sa end!! one word: TANGA! wahahahaha! anyway, "what is life without chemistry?" obviously, he took the "it'd be exactly the same" stand and i for the "no it won't". that was my status in YM. all my ateneo-physics major friends all claim that "chemistry is physics without thought. math is physics without purpose." so i decided to put that status. (but those physics freaks do have a point. but still, CHEMISTRY IS THE CENTRAL SCIENCE.) Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: yes it will. elements compounds will stay as they are whether or not we know what they are Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: the earth existed long before any chemists Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: and it will stay on long after Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: lawreanne sanico: but will you have toothpaste? soap? will you even have electronics? technology? science? no. none of them without chemistry. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: but those aren't essential elements of life Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: they aren't intrinsic necessities lawreanne sanico: but they are essential to life now, as defined by this generation, Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: ah there you are wrong lawreanne sanico: how can i be wrong? Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: what then of tribes in new guinei? Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: or in north luzon Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: they all exist now Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: and yet they do not define their lives along those concepts Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: they are our generation Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: you are arguing that the meaning of life is found in soap and toothpaste Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: that the very intelligibility of being is in cleaning your teeth lawreanne sanico: lawreanne sanico: yes, they exist, but even they are adjusting to the changes in the world -- as i myself saw from the Mangyans in mindoro. yes they exist, but that doesn't mean life had always been the same for them ever since they existed. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: yes Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: that still doesn't prove your point though lawreanne sanico: yes it does. life wouldn't be the same. those IP's and people need chemistry to survive. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: need? Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: really? Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: our knowledge of the elements does not in any way alter the constitution of the natural order Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: chemistry serves to make it intelligible Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: but it is not from chemistry that we derive meaning for existence Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: bringing back my earlier poing which you didn't answer -- you are arguing that the meaning of life is found in soap and toothpaste Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: try defending to any average reasonable person Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: *try defending that to any average reasonable person Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: lawreanne sanico: apparently, you aren't any average reasonable person. haha sorry late reply kay mayda ko gintapos and ginpass na homework (online).. lawreanne sanico: and no, chemistry doesn't exist to make "it" intelligible.. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: oh crap Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: sorry lawreanne sanico: it's not merely the knowledge of elements and compounds that are tackled in chemistry lawreanne sanico: ok la, tapos na. hahaha. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: i know that Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: your saying that your life is more meaningful than that of the greek philosopher just because you have potato chips and he didn't Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: or that you have toothpaste lawreanne sanico: the way they react to other elements and compounds are important aspects. the toothpaste and soap are merely examples. life wouldn't be the same without chemistry lawreanne sanico: without chemistry, would you even have medicines? Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: its essential to the argument Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: YES Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: YES Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: YES Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: YES lawreanne sanico: i'm not saying that life equates to toothpaste, soap or whatever lawreanne sanico: it's just that, it wouldn't be the same. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: i cant believe you're even asking that Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: lawreanne sanico: why? toinkz Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: without chemistry, would you even have medicines Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: yes! Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: you should know Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: except we dont call them medicines Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: see it's all nomenclature Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: and parameters lawreanne sanico: but some "medicines" aren't sufficient for a lot of illnesses Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: its not essential to the argument Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: ! lawreanne sanico: Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: cleave to the issue at hand Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: if you were to take chemistry, people will still have two arms two eyes two legs Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: men will still have a penis and women a vagina lawreanne sanico: that's coz you're defining life as THAT. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: *take away lawreanne sanico: haahhaha Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: no im not lawreanne sanico: i'm arguing that life wouldn't be the same! without chemistry Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: im arguing it's not in chemistry that the essence of existence is located lawreanne sanico: it's not necessary that ALL people know about chemistry Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: i know Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: so? lawreanne sanico: it's just that certain professional people must know and learn and discover a lot about chemistry Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: so? lawreanne sanico: it's the central science afterall. without chemistry (in-depth, that is), curing illnesses wouldn't be the same. life would be hard. lawreanne sanico: that's just one thing Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: how does that help your case? lawreanne sanico: IT WOULND'T BE THE SAME! Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: it's the central science afterall. without chemistry (in-depth, that is), curing illnesses wouldn't be the same. life would be hard Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: sorry i typed that before i saw this lawreanne sanico: hhahahaha Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: yet life would still be life lawreanne sanico: but it wouldn't be the same Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: it could still be meaningful lawreanne sanico: but it wouldn't be the same Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: it that sense it just the same lawreanne sanico: ? Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: meaning that chemistry does not alter life itself dramatically, it merely enhance the facticities of life Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: the very immanent aspects are not dependent on chemistry Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: externalities lawreanne sanico: yes it is.. it's just that, people don't know. hahaha Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: dont give me an answer like that Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: you were doing quite well lawreanne sanico: hahahahaha Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: hahahaah Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: ok na eh lawreanne sanico: nag-loosen up an tension. cnxah. Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: sinira pa lawreanne sanico: Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: ok na arguments mo eh, sinira mo Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: haahahahahaha Lievj Raoni Alimangohan: i dunno about you i was having fun the entire time lawreanne sanico: hahahaha. me too lawreanne sanico: it's been long since i did that the rest that followed were about school orals and shiz. oh well, but i did enjoy the debate (with former(?) 'coach' kuya lievj)! it's been long since i debated like this. fun fun night! :)) |
